IT'S TIME TO WRITE THE BOOK GOD HAS DROPPED INTO MY HEART LIKE AN EXHILARATING WAVE!
12/19/2024
Now that God gave me THE dream and the inspiration for this new book, it’s time to put what I see onto paper and form images with words to share with the world. It’s an amazing process when you think about it. Our imaginations are miracles! I mean, words are so important they can take you on the biggest adventure of your life.
Not only am I taking you on this adventure with me, I’m opening up the process a bit. It’s kind of difficult because I don’t want to give anything away but yet I really feel like God wants me to share this. I believe it’s to inspire you to consider what you’ve felt God leading you to do for a long time but haven’t. Or you were like me, in a sort of an inspirational limbo land. But thank God, I’ve finished my journey through that process and I’m bursting with inspiration and excitement over this. Like I said in the last blog, I haven’t been excited about a book project like this in a long time!
I’m now ready. I’ve got the plan, I’ve got the bursting inspiration, and I have my pen in hand. (The best pen I’ve found so far that is scrolly and glidey is the Papermate Ink Joy Gel 0.7 by the way.) (Did I mention I handwrite my novels?) But where do I start? There’s a lot to be figured out before the first word of the first page is written. I need to create the characters and the world in which my book takes place.
I’m the first person who needs to be moved by the story. If I’m not moved by it, neither will my readers be moved. If I don’t see the characters and the world they live in, how will my readers? In preparation and writing, I have to see every detail clearly so I can clearly describe everything. If what I see is a little fuzzy, then I have some work to do to get the details down.
To start, I create my cast list. Characters, names, detailed descriptions, backstories, where they live, even pictures! I know the more I pour into my characters, the more my readers will relate and get attached to them.
I then take the same steps with my characters in the environment where they live and experience. I drew this map from inspirations from other things, experiences, and places visited or seen firsthand. Inspiration can come from literally anywhere. As you can see, some things in the picture are top secret. It feels so good when I get an important place like this down on paper. It’s one thing to have it in my mind, which I totally do. I can see it so clearly! But to get it on paper is beyond helpful. It’s also very exciting to share a part with you for the first time.
Once the details are solid, I’m solid in knowing I know this place well and I can describe it perfectly. I’m thrilled to have you along on this journey that captures every part of me while I’m writing. The characters come with me everywhere. When I lay down at night in bed, ideas come. It feels even sweeter to experience this since it has been so long. So grateful to God for bringing this book. So grateful for you also! I hope this encourages you to step out and do what God has been calling you to do. With Him, all things are truly possible!
What is your favorite aspect of this picture and why?
How would you feel if you were walking in this breathtaking place?
